    Vitamin D video surveillance

    http://vitamindinc.com/demo.php

I have tried vitamin D free version for about 1 month and are extremely happy with the results.

There is a free version that is limited to one camera and low resolution and do not support such as to trigger external scripts against such homeseer.

Today I saw that they had a 25% discount so I bought the PRO version and have now integrated it with homeseer and hstouch.

What is so great about the software is that it can trigger on people or other objects. For example, if one be going over a digital line from left to right or vice versa. And the answer is yes you can distinguish which direction the object moves. Or if someone stops at an object in a predetermined time, or direct it triggered this. Triggering a person comes or goes through a door.
As I have said very smart and for each rule, a script is called. In my case, I have a separate server and run the example c:\homeseer\hsscript.exe vitamind_people_in_front.vb to trigger things on homeseer.

I have absolutely nothing to do with the supplier, but just want to share with you this amazing software that I could not find a post about this earlier.

In this case I have real time show on the monitor of the cams.

Thanks for sharing, can supervision fire a event or script on homeser based if there a human? Detect directions of the movement and fire different events?
I have not found any other cam software before that can do things like VitaminD but I take a look at it.

            Short answer, "yes"

            Long answer:
I moved a while ago, so I don't have my cameras setup to give you a remote demo...

However, I can't do direction with it, but I have used it with 4 cameras detecting motion. Each one would fire a script that interfaced to HS, and did whatever I wanted it to (turn on a virtual device, fire off an event, etc.).

I used that to keep lights on outside. Worked MUCH better then motion detectors.

I also used it as a "second-look" for confirmation of outside actions, prior to triggering anything.

Such as, outside lights, motion would trip them (if it's night), turn the camera channel video processing on (HS fires a script that modifies a reg. entry that tells the software to start processing), the camera then "captures" a single frame to the hard drive (to mark the event), and begins processing. If the camera detects NO motion, after a certain amount of time, the camera processing and lights are turned off. If there is motion, every time there is, the "detected" script is fired, which refreshes the timers in HS. Also, as there is detection, images are captured (I do not capture video, although you can).

I also did not have issues with outside trees and such moving, as you can assign detection "Window" areas, as well as colors you want it to ignore as part of the motion detection scheme. When configuring the motion detection, it's REALLY easy. As part of it, the software RUNS the algorithms in real time, showing a "tripped" or not status, which allows you to adjust the variables for each camera...so each can have it's OWN detection threshold. Or, at my last house, I told it to ignore the grey color of squirrels, but in the front, I had it ignore greens and reds (flowers and my tree I had in the front walk area). I think, after 1 week of playing, I got it down to 1 false trip / 6 month. The thing that REALLY helped was having BOTH the motion detector AND the camera analytics BOTH say "YES" before capturing.

I also had a 5th channel hooked up, since my server sits in my work room, I had a USB webcam hooked up to the server. The video software used motion to detect if I was in the work room and keep the lights on. Worked TONS better than a motion detector. I tripped the lights ON with an opening of the door. Then kept them on as long as the door was open and there was motion detected in the room.

Also, upon detection, I have the first 5 pictures, e-mailed to a separate e-mail account (just in case the server doesn't get a chance to off load the pictures before being stolen, I at least get to keep a few images, that MIGHT help the police).

A TON of these features are built in to the software.

I should get it re-installed, as one of the up coming projects is to get the cameras run around the new house. Wife and I finally decided WHERE to put them...should be able to get the pan/tilt installed this time!

Is it just me or is Vitamin D really memory intensive?
I have 10 netcams in WebcamXP and the memory usage seldom exeeds 25 MB...

I don't think it's you...that's why I posted about Supervision. I used to run that SW with 4 cameras on a P3-550. Then, my Celeron 2.2GHz with a Webcam also attached. Now I've got a 3.2GHz with Hyper-threading.

As soon as I get the cameras attached, I'll be back to 4 on my server.

                  [tangent]

I think I need to put a new heatsink on my CPU :-(

Anything with 100% CPU for more than 1 hour locks up my server. Never happened with the 2.2GHz CPU. I did put a new heatsink (seemed decent enough...but maybe it can't handle the thermal load) on for the new processor, but I think I'll go back to the other heatsink (was an Intel retail). My mobo underclocks the chip if it gets too hot, so, as I notice my system getting poky just before reboot, I'm guessing it's a heat issue.

I did a try and install the SuperVisionCam and I add one camera and every time i press "Capture Settings" the software crash with message "SuperVisionCam has stopped working", close program.

I will try it on another computer.

WebcamXp did take to mutch cpu for me and trigger to easy for snow.
VitaminD is working as a charm for me but I always like to try and find if there is any better solution. I am never locked to the first I find
I like the webserver function in SuperVision that VitaminD not have.

                    Thanks.

I am ready to purchase this software myself. While I have a dedicated CCTV DVR, I haven't found anything better yet than Vitamin D which supports directional motion detection, and HD IP cameras. Wish it wasn't so expensive, but there really doesn't seem to be anything else out there which offers the same features at this price.

Hi! I already use vitaminD for surveilance, but i thought to use its automated features for displaying just a homeseer touch window on movement. This window would simple be the camera's url. I already have setup a camera window, witch works when i press a button on homeseer touch interface. The video recording is a work just for vitamin D itself, I only need the camera to fire an event when tracks motion.
                        How could proceed this?
The first step is the vitamon D to trigger external scripts. What should write there?
Then what should write to .vb file and how should i call it?
If you could be more analytic than your example...

I have already setup other scripts like web radio, mce configurator e.t.c
I know to read (and change) them when somebody tells me what to write, but i don't actually know how to write a script from the scratch...

It would be very helpfull if you could provide me with your vb file or something simpler than that and how to call it. (make it work)

                        Thanks in advance, Kostas

If you are running VitaminD on other computer then HomeSeer you can use Stipus Script Connector.
Under Take Actions in VitaminD you call the Scriptconnector and the script c:\homeseer\hsscript.exe vitamind_uppfart_people.vb

Thanks for the so fast reply!
I did not mention that everything runs on the same machine, so I think that I only need the third script.
So, I created an event that speaks something for testing, named it cam_entre, and I trigger the vitamind.vbs script.
It somehow works (even it has an error on playing a wav file, as i see only one parentheses in the end, and i don't know how to fix this) but It writes the hs log & speaks the test in the event! EXCELENT!
                            But......
I'm really sure that i'm missing something very basic, and i cannot trigger it via vitamind script command.
I Just write in the run command the path and the name of the script.
Is it right? Or do i need to write something in .exe file to trigger?

                            I just write C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\Scripts\vitamind.vbs
And test it with test button and it says the command is not found. Check the path e.t.c.

P.S. I have double check the path that i copy-paste from windows explorer to be sure...

I also did not understand the first lines you wrote :
I don't know how to call the script connector via vitamind (If i need it in my situation) and what exactly to write.
I don't know what vitamind_uppfart_people.vb has to do with me, cause it does not shown anywhere in your scripts nor my computer files...

I just tried in vitamind command run the
                            C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\hsscript.exe vitamind.vbs
                            and C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\hsscript.exe vitamind_uppfart_people.vb
                            and C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\hsscript.exe
                            with no success.
It always says path not found. I know i have hsscript.exe in the right path and it is configured and running in the same machine for testing...

EDIT : I'm now trying C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\OpenUrl.exe but it does not find the path again...
Strange... It has to do with vitaD prog...

2nd EDIT : Ahhh, I found the path error... I have to write C:\Progra~1\HomeSe~1\OpenUrl.exe to work!!!!!!
So, there is the DOS behind ehhh? Now i will try the hsscript.exe commands and vitamind.vbs, but i don't know the right syntax, and what to write in run command, But I will try.....

Hi, I run VitaminD from another place so I use Stipus Script Connector.
                              But try this command:
                              c:\windows\system32\cscript.exe //nologo C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\vitamind.vbs
(Check the right path for you.)

I Just write in the run command the path and the name of the script.
Is it right? Or do i need to write something in .exe file to trigger?

                              I just write C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\Scripts\vitamind.vbs
And test it with test button and it says the command is not found. Check the path e.t.c.

P.S. I have double check the path that i copy-paste from windows explorer to be sure...

I also did not understand the first lines you wrote :
I don't know how to call the script connector via vitamind (If i need it in my situation) and what exactly to write.
I don't know what vitamind_uppfart_people.vb has to do with me, cause it does not shown anywhere in your scripts nor my computer files...

I just tried in vitamind command run the
                              C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\hsscript.exe vitamind.vbs
                              and C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\hsscript.exe vitamind_uppfart_people.vb
                              and C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\hsscript.exe
                              with no success.
It always says path not found. I know i have hsscript.exe in the right path and it is configured and running in the same machine for testing...
