    MediaBrowser 3

    Hi guys,

Has anyone taken a look at : http://mediabrowser.tv/
MediaBrowser now does plugins and streams to so many devices local and remotely.
It seems a good prospect for Homeseer, if only one can link it to HSTouch. I hope I'm not embarrassing myself because the MediaController plugin here: http://board.homeseer.com/showpost.p...90&postcount=1 can detect it as a server for content providing but I think a two way plugin would be really cool

    Regars.

Have you looked at XBMB3C plugin for xbmc?
You may be able to use xbmc with the xbmc plugin for homeseer then use the MediaBrowser plugin for xbmc.

      Yes Greg,

I'm doing just that and the setup is wonderful but what I and maybe others would have HSTouch act as Airplay for the media. So one could create browsable screens for HSTouch as the centre all things Homeseer. I understand that you can start an event by playing a movie and have all sorts of things happen automagically. But wouldn't it be nice by doing things though your iPad by scrolling through your movies just like XBMC Constelletion, here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/xbmc...437807301?mt=8

The only problem XBMC Constelletion doesn't do home automation, so you can't dim your lights from the same app. You would have to flip over to HSTouch. I know the Homeseer server works as backend to do the magic and hope I'm not being too demanding but seeing Homeseer "coming of age"

You could also say that I have been trying to trick someone to do some integration into HSTouch, like here: http://board.homeseer.com/showthread...05#post1117405 and here : http://forums.homeseer.com/showthrea...00#post1117400 , but had my fingers burnt

I'm sorry for being too greedy

Hi Eman, I hope I didn't burn your fingers and you are not greedy at all. Here is where the challenges lie.

The functions you are looking for, they exist. Spud's PIs will allow you to play to Airplay devices, my PI will play to DLNA capable devices, and between the two of them, you cover most of the market. There is a new standard coming up called DIAL (DIscovery And Launch) which seems to be supported by Google's Chromecast, Netflix, Samsung, Sony and allow you to "control" what is called the "secondary screen" on your player, for example the Netflix app. I'm currently looking into that how to add it to my MediaController PI.

So back to the problem at hand ... the user interface. HSTouch is just a graphical user interface that, through HST designer, allow users without programming skills to create basic screens. .... and that's where it strengths and limits are. If someone was to create a specific MediaBrowser PI or WildMediaServer PI, the result would still be limited by the functions supported in HS Touch.

If the HS team had a few thousand engineers, think the # of engineers working on IOS, or Android, or Windows, I'm sure they could do a much better job, but the current features are like running a current app on a DOS or Windows 3.0 machine ... it doesn't support swiping, multi-finger support, HTML tables w/ images, double taps, drags and drops, embedded video etc, for most part it is just trying to graphically show what is visible on the Device Management page. I'm not trying to downplay this, I think it is a great job done by such (what I assume) small HS development team and this is complex enough to do this on all the different platforms this SW runs on.

I suspect what attracts you so much to MediaBrowser is its graphical user interface and that's where all the limits are defined by the capabilities of HST. The postings you have seen left and right about the MediaAPI in HS3, it will first and foremost be a navigation mechanism to navigate back and forth between list which contains tittles, meaning text not images. I hope that will be the start and over time, more contemporary functions (images, swipes, double taps ...) will be added to HST and perhaps gradually over time, the user experience will improve.

For time being, my recommendation would be to directly use whatever app that was specifically written for whatever server you want to deploy and seek a PI that was written against the device that you want to play the media to. For example, I think you can use Spud's PI to use on Apple devices, if the player is a DLNA compatible player, my PI may give you the events you are looking for to turn off the lights etc.

I installed the MediaBrowser app this morning, I'm going to play with it a little as I suspect it may support DIAL or its own derivative. For me to test and implement DIAL I need a DIAL compliant device and so far the closest I have is my ROKU, which is already supported bythe MediaController PI. I need a Sony or Samsung device or get myself a ChromeCast stick.

Cheers and hope this helps to clarify ... I know .. it doesn't give you a solution

        Dirk

          Good work Dirk,

Everytime I have asked a question, you have gone to great lengths to make me understand even better. I have great admiration for you guys for what you do to make Homeseer a great product.

Let there be peace and wisdom to all the Devs.

          Need we say more?

          Regards.
