TUTORIAL: How to create two 100% free SIP accounts to try the SIP Connector...

Anyone with a broadband internet connection can try the SIP Connector. If you don't know VOIP, or if you don't have access to a SIP account, you can see how it works by following this tutorial.

You are going to use the free SIP service provided by pbxes.org, in order to create 2 SIP extensions. You have to create a free PBX account first, then the 2 extensions.

First extension is AccountName-600 for HomeSeer use.
Second extension is AccountName-601 for your own use from a SIP Softphone such as X-Lite.

    1) Create two 100% free SIP Accounts

    Go to https://www2.pbxes.com/index_e.php

Choose Create Account, and fill the form.
Remember your AccountName. In the following exemple, account name is stipus.

Once this is done, in the left menu choose:
    Extensions
    Add extension
    SIP

    Extension Number : 600
    Display Name : HomeSeer
    Password: xxx
    SUBMIT

    Extension Number : 601
    Display Name : MyName
    Password: xxx
SUBMIT Then click on the red bar.

    In the left menu choose:
    Incoming Calls
Choose Extension HomeSeer <600> for both regular and after hours
SUBMIT Then click on the red bar.

2- Download, Install X-LITE and configure for extension 601

    Download from this link http://www.xten.com/index.php?menu=download

Once installed, choose SIP-Account-Settings, and click ADD
Fill the form with the following parameters:

    Display Name: MyName
    Username : stipus-601 <-- here this is AccountName-extension (from step 1)
    AuthUsername : stipus-601
    Password : xxx
    Domain: pbxes.org

After validation, you should see X-Lite discovering the network, and print:
    Ready: Your username is: stipus-601

3- Configure SIP Connector for extension 600

From the SIP Connector Web configuration interface

    Click Add new account
Name: enter a name for the line: FREE1
    Incoming Script: sip_incoming.vb
    Display Name: HomeSeer
    User Name: stipus-600 <-- Use AccountName-Extension here.
    Domain Realm: pbxes.org
    Auth User Name : stipus-600
    Auth Password: xxx
    SUBMIT
After submitting, HomeSeer log should show Registering HomeSeer sip:stipus-600@pbxes.org

    4 - Try It !

Return to the X-Lite Softphone application.
Press space-bar to disable letter-to-digit mode
Type stipus-600 as a phone number, then click on DIAL.
Once connected to the plugin, you can type the password of any HomeSeer Phone Mailbox to get to the main menu.

    IMPORTANT:

You don't need the HomeSeer Phone License to configure a mailbox and use the HomeSeer phone contact-list and answering machine with the SIP Plugin.

To enable HomeSeer phone answering machine and contact-list, choose SETUP / WEB SITE / Navigation links to Show / HomeSeer phone: YES
(You may have to restart HomeSeer for the link to show).
    Or
SETUP / PHONE / Mailbox configuration.

Unfortunately, the IVR sample scripts won't be able to save a voice message to the answering machine mailbox until you upgrade to HS2.1.154 or up.

Please tell me if you have any problem following these steps.

Tried and failed - complete newbie to SIP but followed your instructions and got all correct looking messages from both ends - make the call from xlite, calling, call established, couple of little icons on the bottom of the xlite screen then hung up and call dropped - nothing in the log at the homeseer end

DO I need any port forwarding etc. setup on the router

OK tried again and succeeded - seems the pbx settings for the extension to call in the out of hours didn't take sure I did both but put it down to talent failure, playing now.....

The PBX interface to allow incoming calls is not very clear. I don't understand why all extensions cannot be called by default once they are defined.

The first time I tried setting up my account, I didn't go to the Incoming menu, and didn't understand why calls didn't reach the plugin, and only lasted 1 second ! I first thought my plugin was not compatible with their service...

In the SIP Connector plugin web configuration interface:

From HomeSeer Status Page, click SETUP / INTERFACES
Then click CONFIG on the SIP Connector row.

Leave Local Contact ID to 0 or blank, and Proxy Server to blank.

When proxy server is blank, the DomaiRealm is used as the proxy server (domain realm must be resolvable).
When LocalContactId is 0, the local contact is choosen automatically by the SIP Library. In most case it's your NAT mapped contact ID (STUN must be enabled if you are in private address space behind a router)

If the plugin doesn't register, Double check your router configuration and disable the SIP ALG (application layer gateway) setting.

                      SIP compatible with Vonage?

Sorry, guys. I'm a newbe to HomeSeer. I want the the features of HomeSeer Phone but I am wondering if this plugin is what I need more for use with my Vonage VoIP. Should I buy HomeSeer Phone and a modem or this plugin. Also, does this plugin allow local phone control of events, etc.?

                      Thanks for your patience

The plugin works with Vonage Softphone accounts and has a free 30-day trial period.

                            <HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
From the HomeSeer status page, you have to click on the SETUP button (top of the page).

Then click the INTERFACES button on the second button row.

Then you get the list of all plugins.

Then on the row for the SIP Connector, there is a SETUP button

Click this button, then follow step 3.

                              CANT FOund IT

                              Sorry.
But i cant found the buttons you say.
                              this is the situation:

Im in the home seer status page (i guess),in top of page appears this buttons:

                              FORUM DOCS SETUP SHOP

under this buttons,i have this title:

                              SIP Extension: 600th

Then i click on SETUP button

                              i have the following Title:
                              Welcome
                              and the following text:
This area of the website allows you to configure your PBX

under this text, theres a space and the following link:
                              Visit PBXspace.

So i dont see any button almost similar to the buttons u say.

so.. im doing anything else bad?
