Advice on controlling pool heater

I want to shut the power on and off to my pool heater. I tried X-10 but either the elements or the distance from the house proved to be unreliable. Is there something of a wireless variety that might do the trick? I could either switch 110 volts or if I open it up I could switch 12V inside. Thanks.
