How to get all the IR codes for almost all Devices

    Hi everyone.
i have been having some issues with getting some AC commands to work.
after much time with the support it seems that the IR Learn software doesnt catch all the IR codes.

so here is a quick solution for this. I hope this becomes a sticky post since it is important.

download the putty.exe software (its a free terminal program).
    * open putty and enter the ip of the Itach device (mine is 192.168.1.230)
    * in the port field enter 4998
    * select RAW mode
    * press open or hit the "enter" key

you should get a blank window with a cursor waiting
type get_IRL (IRL must be in capital letters)
you should get IR Learner Enabled

now it is ready for commands. just point the remote and you should get the whole code.
BUT!!! after you get the code you will still have to adjust the first part of the code for the itach ir port
    sendir,1:2,1 - port 2 (the middle one)
    sendir,1:1,1 - port 1
    sendir,1:3,1 - port 3

this should get you up and running quick.
    hope this helps

And you have been successfully getting AC IR codes with this method? Have you encountered any obstacles?

      nope.
it started with a support cal to global cache with the request to help me get an AC code.
they told me there is a known issue with some AC codes since the ilearn software doesnt get the whole code.
the AC code for example is this:
      24 degrees - cold - (Port 1)
      sendir,2:1,1,32467,1,1,93,131,64,31,31,60,64,31,31,31,31,31, 31,31,31,31,31,31,31,60,64,30,32,59,64,31,32,30,31,31,31,31, 31,31,32,30,32,30,32,30,31,31,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30, 32,30,32,30,32,59,64,30,93,131,64,30,32,59,64,31,31,31,31,31 ,31,31,31,31,31,31,31,60,64,31,31,60,64,31,32,30,32,30,32,30 ,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30 ,32,30,32,30,32,59,64,31,92,132,64,30,32,59,64,31,31,31,31,3 1,31,31,32,30,32,30,31,60,64,31,31,60,64,30,32,30,32,30,32,3 0,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,30,32,31,31,31,31,31,32,30,32,31,31,3 1,31,31,31,31,31,60,64,30,127,4155

as you can see it is very long
here is the power code for my sony TV:
      sendir,1:2,1,40322,6,1,96,24,48,24,24,24,48,24,24,24,48,24,2 4,24,24,24,48,24,24,24,24,24,24,24,24,1036

so i am guessing the ilearn software has a limit character display.
another annoying issue is that the ilearn didnt display the code unless i pressed the button on the remote a lot of times and each time with a different angle on the small hole on the back of the itach.

with the RAW way, it almost catches the code right away.
when i told the support about this, they were not even aware of this option since this is an old trick from a previous global cache device but it still works here.

since then i only use this method for any new codes i need to capture.
since its the same device and the same code learning method, basically its a different method for the same purpose

How interesting. Once you have the codes are you able to easily implement them in HS3? How are you using them?

I don't have any GC devices but am looking into getting some to control my mini split AC's, my projector and my stereo.

I also have Mini-split A/C unis, a total of 4. Mine are LG. I would really like to try to control them. The only device I have read about controlling an LG is the Remotec ZXT-120 and unfortunately that has only 1 use re using canned codes. He was not able to get it to learn.

I understand there is slightly better support for Mitsubishi because they have a little more market.

I would be very interested to hear more. For mine I would be happy storing at a minimum two codes. A/C on at normal temperature and A/C off.

Mine are Mitsubishi but I have steered clear of the ZXT-120 because of all of the complaints and hacks I see in posts. Is there a list of supported AC's?

i was told that not all AC will work with the IR2IP since it cant catch all the code.
with this was i was able to program all my devices with ease

I'm so testing this tonight. I bought 2 IP2IR units - one for the TV and one for the aircon but i could never get it to learn the ac codes! That IR Learn software was pretty crappola...

Thanks for the tip! This would be easier to me than using iLearner, but I for one never had any problems with it, even with the A/C...

I can report success! Was able to successfully learn the codes for my kelvinator split system air con. I wasn't able to do this with iLearn - although that could have been because I worked out that my blaster connection is not working.

This worked perfectly for me with my Onkyo receiver. I have tried for hours trying to get it to work with ILearn. Thanks for the great tip!!

the funny thing about this is when i talked to Global Cache's support and told them i found this trick, they didnt even know about it.

it seems that it a legacy feature that is still around from old version devices.

for me personally i prefer this method since it catches the IR codes better.

I agree, it is better. To me its sad that Global Cache has not put more effort into the Ilearn utility. I would have thought that having a nice learning utility that is reliable and easy to use would be very important. I was very close to dumping my unit in the trash because of this poorly written utility.

                            Thanks again.

Is there any other way to get the codes for the Global Cache IR device? The ILearn seems like a complete waste of time. I tried the putty.exe and it worked for me the first time I tried it and then nothing after that. It gives the proper response to the get_IRL command but never shows any of the remote codes regardless of what remote or button I try. The HS help file hints about the ability to learn IR commands but I can't get that to work either. The help instructions say to select "Learn Signal" from the Type drop down but mine only has Paste Signal as a choice. How does everyone get this to work?
