    Weatherunderground Alternatives

Thinking of moving away from Weatherunderground and looking for some new weathersite that I can upload my weatherdata and weathercam pictures.

    Any suggestions?

I haven't gone to the site via the browser lately and this morning noticed that the pages now have about 50% more adverstisements and getting to any information on them is pretty useless.

That said today I am uploading data from the weather station in Florida and up here near Chicago along with having two set up web sites with the weatherdata information.

      May go to APRS?

It seems as though Weather Underground has put a lot of the little guys out of business. There's always the NWS and most all of their data is available in portable formats.

Yes; I use NWS all of the time.

I have three weather stations set up right now.

Two of them have their own web sites using Comcast. Personallly my custom web comcast weather sites (personal pages) give me everything I need from just about any device out there...

My preference though was to concurrently update two more sites with my weather data.

These are the two Comcast sites. Two weather stations generate these via Cumulus; Homeseer Cumulus plugins takes their data every few minutes and uploads data to the following two Weatherunderground sites.

                    Comcast -

                    1 - http://lockport.golffan.us/
                    2 - http://longboatkey.golffan.us/

WeatherUnderground - log out of WUN and look to see how long the page takes to come up.

I spent the last two days reviewing the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP).

                      http://info.aprs.net/index.php?title=Weather

Most of this is done on a volunteer basis.

Right now it appears to be neglected, documented in numerous ways but mostly disfunctional. Spot checking "active" CWOP weather stations show many (over 50%) not uploading any data at all. APRSWXNET also seems to be in disarray.

A side note for those using the Fine Offset weather station combo Cumulus application. The newest beta has a "maybe" fix for the USB disconnect issue which can be only fixed by removing the batteries and disconnecting the USB cable on the Fine Offset console.

That said the Fine Offset in FL has had this issue twice this past year. This can be an issue if you let the application run and are not able to get to the console remotely.

Also one of my favorite weather picture sites is coming back on line.

I have now added the uploading of weather data to the APRS/CWOP system. I did have issues relating having to open up some firewall ports both on the base W2003 standard server box and the firewall itself. Issues are that my preference are not to open up firewall ports for specific program uploading to the internet.

It is not "fancy" like Weatherunderground; but you can see the data without having to log into the service or waiting for all of the adverstisements on the page to come up before actually getting to the data.

I am making the Cumulus box upload now to a private web page, WUN and WCOP all at the same time along with the Homeseer Cumulus plugin polling the data from the Cumulus server and doing its own thing for my personal Homeseer server (variables, charting, et al).

Seeing your own data is as simple as:

                          Code:
                          http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?call=mynumber&last=36&radar=***
                          http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage....t=36&radar=***

Next pieces will include radio in the form of an APRS set up (geez takes me back as I used to get into ham radio in the 1960's).

I am trying to insert weather into HSTouch using the information in Forecast.io

I have an API but when I go and put in the Manual URL to RSS Feed, I get a "At 0, Root Element is missing." error.

This is the syntax I am using:
                            https://api.forecast.io/forecast/[$WEATHER]/[$LATITUDE],[$LONGITUDE]

This is the example they post on their site:
                            https://api.forecast.io/forecast/API...TUDE,LONGITUDE

I of course updated the API in the HSTouch Server Setup in the HS Setup page.

Here is a sample of what I get out of the API when placing it in a browser:

                            Code:

                              Tried the format above:

                              Code:
                              api.forecast.io/forecast/apikey/41,-88.xml
                              Doesn't work for me.

I haven't tried the direct WUN RSS feeds in HSTouch but did try the following samples and they worked here for me.

                              Code:
                              api.wunderground.com/api/apikey/forecast/q/IL/Chicago.xml
                              Code:
                              api.wunderground.com/api/apikey/forecast/q/41,-88.xml
                              Code:
                              api.wunderground.com/api/apikey/forecast/weather/q/41,-88.xml
