What do you call your home?

With the voice command system, what do you use to get the computers attention? Perhaps something catchy? a project name? pet name?

What do you call your home?

I named my home automation system "Audrey" in honor of the failed 3Com home automation appliance. Others have used common butler stereotypical names like Giles, Jeeves, Alfred, etc. I think it is a lot more fun when you add a bit of personality to your home automation. And make sure you give it a voice to match the name!

I'm all for personalizing the name and voice. I'm trying to stay away from the stereotype names, yet come up with something techie/interesting...

I call mine Sammy...my wife is ok with most of the automation stuff, but hates when it talks, so that is limited...but my kids enjoy her.

Sammy was named by my youngest daughter after showing her the picture i use to represent it.

My kids (well when they were under 5) in the 1980's called the house voice "diamond".

It was the voice of the secretary of the developer of then current alarm panel with TTS; actually came up in a conversation once with the developer in the 1980's.

Today the Homeseer voice is just called "she" by wife.

The other voice in the house is the parrot. (35 years old now). She is older than my kids and has been around since the 1970's.

The parrot's name is Kika today and referred to by name or curse word or "my bird" by the wife. I just call her Kika.

If I use the Homeseer TTS to talk to the parrot; she does respond to the voice.

We call our home Palmyra.... we got a lotta palms!

My question surrounds.... how does this work. Where/how do you set up the dialog:

                Me: Palmyra?
                Palmyra: Yes!
                Me: Do whatever....

As it stands, now, the VR client talks to the TV saying "I do not understand..." over and over.... until I cut the microphone off.

you set the attention phrase in the voice recognition control panel within windows itself, not homeseer. by default it is listening for "computer" which is a pretty common word to set it off.

Thanks, I'll look into that. No wonder I couldn't find in in the HS docs.....

I come from a country where houses have names not numbers and we carried that tradition on when we came to the States and just use the street name to refer to them. The HA systems though have all been called Orac after the computer in the cult UK late 70's and early 80's Sci-fi TV show.
