Major wind today and yesterday here. 3 of the 5 deck chairs were blown off the deck today. My AAG was "over reporting" the wind speed; think cuz of inertia? Its on the roof next to the chimney some maybe 25 or so feet up. The test location for the Fine Offset is similiar to yours at maybe 8-10 feet off the ground; but not surrounded by trees.

I too am not too fond of ladders. A couple of years ago while on the roof working on my weather stuff the fiberglass ladder (its kind of heavy) blew down. I had a cell phone with me and called a neighbor for help. Another thing is that its easy to climb up to the weather station there; but I have to slide down the roof to the ladder to get down; which I do not like. So will be waiting for mounting either the "Fine Offset" or the "Davis Vantage Vue" on the roof.

I use flash with the XP based HSTouchscreens. Testing Silverlight on a couple of them. For HSTouch I just use the Cumulus piece of the HTML and load it in HSTouch directly from the LAMP server. I do the same with my flash alarm clocks / clocks having the HTML code and flash clocks sitting on the Homeseer box. I just resize them to fit the screens.

Here's what is being loaded for the Cumulus Flash wind guages. Its just a snippet of the Cumulus web page sitting on the Cumulus web server.

    Flash Wind guage.

      Pete,

Is there any chance you would have both stations set up next to each other for any length of time once you get the Davis. I'd really be interested in comparing the data (particularly the wind speed/gust data). Even if it was just for a week to see the difference.

        No problem GatorEye.

I have to check out my 1-Wire AAG wiring; it went out after about 4 years a couple of weeks ago. Might be an easy fix. I have the cables running down to eye level where they are patched. Unless the issue is on the roof (which I doubt). My wind speeds on the AAG were running about 2/3's above normal. I actually took the number and put it in a formula to slow it down a bit.

... my 1-wire went out a week ago, and found that a squirrel had started munching on the wire... a quick fix once found.

I've been having problems with rabbits eating the cables. Most of the 1-WIre is in plastic PVC buried except for one or two spots that the rabbits found.

After getting the AAG running again yesterday; looking at redoing my 1-wire multiple networks (3 9097's and 3 Temp0X devices). For the last 7 or so years I've had it configured in the originally recommened star topology. This was done using standard Leviton (small footprint) in the can Cat5 punch panels and telephone punch panels. This method made it easier to add 1-wire devices; not optimal though. That said I have separated the 1-wire networks to parastic and non parasitic and one voltage or another keeping them autonomous. Worked fine for the last 7 years.

Currently I am covering every room in the house with either a 1-wire temperature sensor or a combo 1-wire temperature / humidity sensor each with its own cat5e cabling. Similiar with outside instruments (separate cabling for Lightning sensor, Wind instrument, rain tipping bucket, pagoda and prewired for moisture sensors).

That said will still keep the AAG weather instrument going (cuz its wired anyways) and add an autonomous weather station (testing the Open Offset / Davis thing). One setup will going to FL. This one in particular will have to hold up to the weather there. I've noticed that I'm starting to replace anything of metal outside as its falling apart after about 10 years now. Ideally though it will be a combo weather station / camera configuration that can deal with the salt air / weather et al.

                      GatorEye,

Have put both devices in the DB's. Using actual numbers instead of calculated from source numbers for the AAG weather station wind stuff. The AAG weather station though is on the roof and the Fine Offset is off the deck about 8-10 feet from the ground and maybe some 20 feet from the house.

How often is the AAG reporting wind speed? I think the Davis you were looking at will send it every 2.5 seconds.

Let me know how the numbers start to shake out.

                        Thanks!

The AAG is connected to a Temp08 set to 1 minute report speeds. I am not sure how often the Temp08 is reading from the AAG.

The data collector is the same server as what Cumulus is running on and is XAP (MCS Temp0x) and connected via a serial to network connection (Quatech box). From this same box via XAP numbers go to HS.

Here's what the data looks like:

Posting just the wind speeds on WUN. These are the actual speeds from what the AAG anemometer is indicating (the inertia effect I believe). I "was" using a calculated little formula to bring the wind speeds down to something more normal; which is kind of a Mickey mouse solution. I'm guessing with the Fine Offset under reporting and the AAG over reporting the Davis might be somewhere in the middle.

Did a quick temperature comparison to see if there were differences; there is; and kind of funny that the HAI temperature sensor was the most expensive of the bunch.

Current Outdoor Temps - 12:28 AM

                            Fine Offset: 34.7 F
                            9097 1-wire Combo: 34.9 F (2X temp sensors)
                            AAG: 33.8 F
                            HAI: 42.8 F

I changed the graph in the WUN link above such that it shows three values. Top is AAG with no modifcation, middle is AAG value with multiplier to slow it down and bottom is Fine Offset wind speed. Attached are photos of the Fine Offset on the post off of the deck and the AAG which sits on the roof.

                                Adam,

Been trying to change the default / base IO code and it keeps showing the following no matter what code I change it to. I am having some issues for whatever reason using ";" as a code. Also for whatever reason the default device type defined as Cumulus (3P) is giving me some issues. I forgot to mention this before with the HSTouch "HSTouchTrig (3P)" plugin. My current work around is to define a parallel variable/value variable generating it on the fly. I did it not giving a thought about it; which I probably should have mentioned earlier.
