I saw on the web where someone mounted a RC car steering servo into the blinds and used that to angle the blinds. Yes you need a specific width blind for it... thought I bookmarked it so will check my computer at home later.

i know not zwave or anything but 6vdc makes it work... and he automated it.. forget using what... grrr now gotta google...

There is lots of hacks out there that use Arduino and the servo. I attempted to try this once on my 2 inch faux blinds and struggled to keep it together and dealing with the weight of just turning the blinds (windows are roughly 4 ft wide). Also to make it look pretty, I would need to run power to the window. I don't want to put in that kind of effort for a hack.

In the end, I am still waiting for the right product to come out that isn't going to cost me 5k to do the house. I will continue to use my pull strings until then.

Too bad it failed it did look interesting. There is an alternative. Not cheap especially to get set up but I installed one last year to test it and it has been working flawlessly for almost a year on same batteries. And they open and close every day. Your looking at around $300 for the first blind and $150 for each additional blind. The IBlinds would probably been cheaper but we'll never know.
